Athlone. The town owes its origins to its location as a crossing point on the beautiful River Suck, a tributary of the Shannon, on the boarders of Counties Galway and Roscommon. It is the largest town in County Galway after Galway City, and its hinterland extends up to twelve miles from the town boundary into County Galway, and up to six miles into County Roscommon. The population of the town is almost 6,000 with a further 8,000 residing in the environs.

Woodville House is set at the foot of the Slieve Aughty Mountains in South East Galway. The Walled Garden at Woodville consists of 1.5 acres has been beautifully restored with colorful herbaceous borders, established fruit trees, vegetable garden, rose garden and a serene water fountain. The museum has on display old photos of various members’ of the Persse family, various books belonging to the family including one signed by Lady Augusta Gregory, dated 1898. Also beside the walled garden there is a woodland trail where children can discover the magic of nature and can participate in a woodland hunt
