Iron Man 70.3 4th September
The inaugural race will mark the first Ironman event in Ireland, allocating 35 qualifying slots for the 2012 Ironman World Championship 70.3. Ironman 70.3 Ireland will begin between the seaside village of Salthill and the famous ancient Claddagh fishing village around which the city of Galway began. After a 1.9K swim in the crystal-clear waters of Galway Bay, athletes will take on a challenging 90K bike course that travels through the beautiful countryside and provides views of Connemara and the Burren along the way.

Clarenbridge Oyster Festival 9th - 11th SeptemberCreated in 1954 and still going strong, this festival has become an integral part of life in the picturesque village of Clarenbridge in the south Galway on the shores of Galway bay. The festival programme includes a market day, golf tournaments, yacht races, art and photographic exhibitions, a fine wine and gourmet evening, talks and lectures and the best-dressed-lady competition. The main emphasis, however, is on providing guests with a culinary experience that they will never forget.

Galway International Oyster Festival 22nd - 25th SeptemberThe Galway International Oyster Festival is a food festival held annually in Galway during September, the first month of the oyster season. Inaugurated in 1954, it was begun by great southern hotel Manager, Brian Collins, and in 2000 was described by the Sunday World as "one of the 12 greatest shows on earth" and was listed in the 1987 AA Travel Guide one of Europe's Seven Best Festivals. In September 1954, the first oyster festival was held, and still remains today as one of the longest running festivals of the world. |
